Vengayam Thakkali Thokku / Onion Tomato Thokku
Multipurpose semi gravy which goes well with rice, chapati/roti, dosa, idly, bread. This is one best recipe for bachelors to prepare and store. This is really spicy, warm, and gives the comfort of having a quick gravy without any vegetables and much effort.
Ingredients:
1. Oil - 4 tablespoons
2. Mustard Seeds / Kadugu - 1/2 tablespoon
3. Curry Leaves (Optional)
4. Hing / Asafoetida - 1/4 spoon

5. Onion - 2 small
6. Tomato - 5 small
7. Turmeric Powder - A pinch
8. Hot Red chilli powder - 1/2 tablespoon
9. Sambar Powder - 1/2 tablespoon
Preparation method:
1. In a pan add the oil and heat it. Once it got heated, add in the Mustard Seeds / Kadugu, curry leaves, and lets it splatter.
2. Add the finely chopped onion to the pan with turmeric, salt and fry it on low flame for 2 minutes.
3. Now add in the finely chopped tomatoes to the pan and fry them along until they are smashed in medium flame.
4. Add in the hing/asafoetida, red chilli powder and sambar powder according to the need of your spiciness and mix it.
5. Add 1 glass of water to the masala mixture. Now keep it in a sim flame for 10 mins and let it reduce to a semi gravy consistency leaving some oil.
6. Switch it off and garnish with coriander. Tangy and spicy onion tomato thokku is ready to be served.
This goes well with rice, chapati/roti, dosa, idly, bread. Really a quick dish to make and store as well.
