Brinjal gravy for Briyani (Without Tamarind)

Brinjal gravy for Briyani (Without Tamarind) / Briyani Kathirikai curry

Ingredients:

1. Brinjal / Eggplant - 1/2 Kg
2. Onion - 1 big
3. Tomato - 2 medium sized
4. Ginger garlic paste - 2 tablespoon
5. Jeera / Cumin Seeds - 1 tablespoon
6. Milagu / Peppercorns - 1 tablespoon
7. Curry Leaves - few
8. Oil - 4 tablespoons
9. Chilli Powder - 2 tablespoon
10. Coriander Powder - 1 1/2 tablespoon 
11. Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tablespoon
12. Salt - Required amount

For Grinding:

1. Milagu / Peppercorns - 1 1/2 tablespoon
2. Verkadalai / Peanuts - 4 tablespoons


Preparation method:

1. Chop the onion and tomatoes to thin long pieces.

2. In a pan, add oil and heat it. Add in the Jeera / Cumin seeds, Milagu / peppercorns and Curry Leaves to the pan and let it splutter.

3. Now add in the Ginger garlic paste and onions to it. Fry it until the onions are smashed.

4. Add in the chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder and salt to it. Fry them until they are completely smashed and leaves oil. 

5. Once they leave oil, add in the chopped brinjals, chilli powder and coriander powder to the gravy and mix it well.

6. Now grind the Milagu / Peppercorns and Verkadalai / Peanuts with little water to a smooth paste and add them to the gravy. 

7. Add a cup of water to the gravy and let it boil in medium flame for 15 minutes. 

8. Once the gravy thickens, switch it off and serve hot with Briyani.
